Mike Nichols and “The Graduate”

On November 19th the movie director Mike Nichols died. His movie “The Graduate” from 1967 was special in its use of music in the film. It’s not a music movie but the Simon and Garfunkel songs has an important role in the film. They stand out on their own and are at the same time an essential part of the storytelling. The songs are like movie-integrated music videos. In the clip below you can see a great example of how the songs gets their illustration and are also a part of the story.
